3/6/24 Deadline to turn in Shrimp Boil Tickets to the office. If you have orders with the money you can turn them into the office at this time.
3/7/24 4-H dance after school until 4 pm. $5 admission fee. You must pay your homeroom and get an arm band to enter the dance. Homeroom will start collecting money Wednesday and Thursday before the dance. Concessions will be sold at the dance.

Our final figure is Thurgood Marshall. As a lawyer and judge, Thurgood Marshall strived to protect the rights of all citizens. His legacy earned him the nickname "Mr. Civil Rights."Marshall succeeded in having the Supreme Court declare segregated public schools unconstitutional in Brown v. Board of Education (1954).
His quote is "Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on."

Today’s figure is Bayard Rustin. Bayard Rustin is the man who organized and strategized the March on Washington D.C in August 1963 in the shadows of Dr. Martin Luther King. He served his community tirelessly pushing for more jobs and better wages.

Today’s figure is Alice Coachman. Alice Coachman was the first Black woman from any country to win an Olympic gold medal.On a rainy afternoon at Wembley Stadium in London in August 1948, Coachman competed for her Olympic gold in the high jump. She became the Gold Medalist when she cleared the 5 feet 6 1/8-inch bar on her first attempt. It was a new Olympic record. King George VI of Great Britain put the medal around her neck. With this medal, Coachman became not only the first Black woman to win Olympic gold, but the only American woman to win a gold medal at the 1948 Olympic Games.
Her quote is “to be a champion, you got to have determination, you've got to have guts; you have to train and let nothin' come between you and what you want, that goal you want to reach.”

Today’s figure is Maya Angelou. Maya Angelou was a multitalented poet and author known for her acclaimed 1969 memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Some of her famous poems include “Phenomenal Woman,” “Still I Rise,” and “On the Pulse of Morning,” which she recited at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993 and which earned her a Grammy Award. Angelou also enjoyed a career as a Tony- and Emmy-nominated actor and singer in plays, musicals, and on screen. She became the first Black woman to have a screenplay produced with the 1972 movie Georgia, Georgia. In her work as a civil rights activist, she collaborated with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, among others.
